Baby steps

This will not be a long post. 30 days of Mansfield Project and I must say that I could see some changes. First, I am reading more and I am watching more movies so that makes me very happy. I have a lot of improviments to make on my project, but I will think about this during my vacation. The important idea that I take from these past weeks was keep moving , don't stop and most important don't give up. Consistency is key when doing such a project like this.

So let's keep moving, guys!

5 centimenters per second

Keep myself from cryng was the only thing I could do.

The movie of this week was 5 centimenters per second, an japanese animation from 2007 that translates the word perfectionTold in three interconnected segments, we follow a young man named Takaki through his life as cruel winters, cold technology, and finally, adult obligations and responsibility converge to test the delicate petals of love.

I honestly don't know what else I could say about this movie, because I'm afraid I would destroy the sensibility of it with my lack of vocabulary.

This animation impressed me by the amount of beautiful and silent scenes. I caught myself wondering if the sunrising was as beautiful as it was in this story and I was ashamed to realize that I don't pay as much attention to the small things of my daily life.

If you haven't seen this yet, please go watch it!

Does it bring you joy?

This week I was really down and there were a lot of things going on because I'm almost on vacation, so then I made a very bad decision that it was reading a sci fi book and of course, I got stuck. On Friday, I was looking at my kindle, and also, looking at my 7 miserable percent read of the scifi book when suddely the name The life changing magic of tyding up caugh my attention.

I've download that book a long time ago and I was very excited to read it and I don't know why I forgot it. I started on Saturday and finished this morning, I will be very honest, I neither thank my shoes after using them, nor practice different organization methods, but I appreciate everything that helps me to be more organized and waste less time organizing and cleaning the house.

For those who don't know Marie Kondo created a method of discarting itens that doesn't spark you joy and she also teaches what to do with the itens that are not going to be discarted. I really liked most of her ideas and I put in practice her method today, discarting clothes and organizing them back to my closet. I don't know if this is going to last, or if maybe next week everything will be desorganized again. But I will try to apply her method inside my whole house and I will try to register all the process to you guys, perharps I'll do a series of posts for it.

Let's try to live peacefully in a tidy environment :)

The second attempt

1 year and a half ago I bought a Kikki k personal planner and I spent a lot of money on it and I also promised that I would be more organized and I would plan my life better and of course that worked out for something more than a week.
What happened was the following, I didn't know how to use it, I don't have a printer at home so I couldn't personalize it as much and it all boilled down to the fact that I sucked planning my life and making the cute things that I saw on the internet.

Today I decided that I would clean my planner and start fresh. Maybe, this won't last, but I'm trying really hard here HAHAHA and I'm also counting with the fact that I will be on vacation in a few days and with more time, maybe I will be happy to plan my every day.

Let's see how it goes, and next week I will take some pictures of my progress.

Overwhelmed

On the past few months, I've been thinking a lot about my life and how overwhelmed I feel every single day. I've been working my ass off for some time now, and as a consequence I'm tired all the time.

When I came up with the Mansfield Project, my idea was to organize my time and make myself available for all different kinds of activity that gave me a certain pleasure, it could be reading, watching movies, exercising... anything and then I found out that time was not my problem, because I was able to watch one movie per week and also reading a book every once and while, but I still feel tired and even though I am having more time to do what I like I still don't enjoy it.
I'll be free, aka on vacation, in a few days, so I'm planning to rest my mind and body and besides that I'm not doing any schedules or To do lists, because sometimes it is good to wake up without knowing how many steps you should take or how many times you can go to the bathroom and if your hair is presentable or not.

Let's see what happens with my expectations vs reality in a few days.

Click your heart

I know I was supposed to watch one movie per week, but for some strange reason, I didn't know what to watch this week and after looking at my Netflix list for hours I decided to choose something different, something new. Again, on Netflix, I was just looking for new series that could ease my mind when I saw the poster of the korean mini serie called Click your heart.

What I really liked about this story was that you can choose the end of it! Yes, that's what you read :) you can choose the end that pleases you the most. We follow this character named Min A and she is very unlucky, everybody that she gets close to suffers an accident or something worst. She moves from school to school all the time, but her reptuation keeps following her. In her adventures, she meets four different boys and she has to decide with who she is going to date.

This mini serie has only seven episodes of 12 minutes each. And at the end of the fourth episode she decides to date one of the boys and I was like "Okay, he's cute, too!" but then, the next episode starts with her taking a different course of action and she ends up with another guy. And this idea continuous till episode seven, so you can see her with all the boys and choose the best ending.

I thought this was very funny and creative, specially because every time that I watch a korean drama, I'm always confused about with who the girl has to end the story with and this gave me the oportunity so see her with all of them so I could decide the one that I liked the most.

As I said it, it's only seven episodes of 12 minutes each, so I watched everything at once on Netflix. And this was my choice for the week instead of watching a movie. To this light hearted story I would give 5 stars, because it promisses us to have fun and that's what happens.

I hope you guys like korean series as I do.

Rosemary's baby

I decided to read this book because I'm participating of the horror marathon that's happening on Youtube. I will give my honest opinion, I'm not the kind of person who reads horror books all the time, but for this one in particular, I was very excited.

The story starts when Rosemary and her husband Guy are going to sign a contract to buy this amazing apartment in NY. One of Rosemary's friend advise her not to, because the building is surronded by weird stories, suicides and nobody knows what is going on there.

Of course, the apartment has a great view, and as her husband is an actor and he has been well paid for some of the jobs that he has been doing, she decides to ignore her friend's advise and buy it. When she moves, she meets a girl who lives with an old couple who had helped her to get out of the streets and to stay away from drugs and bigger problems. The readers of the story, us, know that something is completely wrong with the couple from the moment that they are mentioned. I cannot say the reason, but they need Rosemary to give birth to a baby so they can successfully complete one of the Satan's mission. Yeah, that's it, Satan, himself.

The problem is that Rosemary changes her mind a lot during the whole story so I couldn't predict her actions in the end of the book. In addition to that, I wasn't awestruck with the end of the story as I thought I would be. Actually, I hate it LOL

I didn't have time to watch the movie adaption of the novel, but I will give it a try, because I really liked the book and how all the actions happened very fast so I never got bored. And I will just complete the end of the story with my own imagination and ignore the end created for it,
I will read Childhood's end on this following week, so I hope that the end of this next book will be better.

The Mansfield Project - Wrap up #1

As promissed I am here to talk about The Mansfield Project and how the first weeks went. Of course, the first seven days were amazing! Because we are more focus on the goals, we have the energy of doing something new and everything that I planned I was able to accomplish. For those who don't know, some of my goals were: read one book per and watch one movie per week, study one of the units of my japanese textbook and exercise more often. I won't be specific about my other goals, but everything went as planned. (I said I won't be specific about it, because they are about my job and also about my household chores, and I decided that this is too boring to write on my blog LOL)

On the second week, I was disapointed, because I couldn't finish the unit that I planned to study from my japanese textbook and that was when things started to get a little bit crazy. In addition to the fact that I couldn't finish the unit I felt down in the dumps and this sounds dramatic ,but it is true and I didn't finish because I didn't have time or I didn't planned my week well, it was simply because I had a lot of difficulties during this unit and the grammar was kind of hard.
That's why I am thinking about changing my study goals, I will try to achieve 6 hours of study per week, instead of just saying that I will finish an specific unit or grammar. This will stress me less and I won't pressure myself to just keep going on my studies without fully understanding it.
On the other hand, I think that my reading goals are going pretty well! I read all the books I planned so far and I didn't have problems with it. I hope I will continue this amazing job LOL and read more and more.

I'll be back in two weeks from now to register another report about the project!
Good luck to us all,

Scream S01, killing my productivity.

I can assure you that there has been a long time that I haven't watched something so stupid and at the same time so addicting as Scream. I know I am a little bit behing on this vibe, but I only started watching some days ago and I am already enjoying season two.
This is a typical horror serie, which the main character is a blond sweet american girl who dates the leader of the football team and she has bitchy friends and some problematic ones, too. I think what I liked the most about this serie was that you can't take the story too serious. A lot of predictable actions happen, but it's okay, because it's light and there are lots o pop cultural references that made me laught hard.

The idea of who killed and who is behind the mask keeps us curious enough and also, the way that the camera leads the scenes makes me feel full of adrenaline and fear. (some kind of good fear, does that exist?)

If you are tired of watching heavy dramas and you just need to relax after a long day at work, this one is for you. (Season 1 is available on Netflix now, and Season 2 is being released one episode per week since the beggining of this month)

It's human; we all put self interest first.

I will not speak too much about Medea today. I think that everything that I needed to report to you guys is that this reading awestrucked me in so many ways, that I believe that this story should be on a TBR list of every human being.
Medea is a thrilling and powerful speech about being a women and their role in society. I wish I could put in words how Eurípides moved me, however, nothing would be so impressive than using his own words. So, without further ado... Medea:
Of all creatures that can feel and think,we women are the worst treated things alive.

For in other ways a woman is full of fear, defenseless, dreads the sight of cold steel; but, when once she is wronged in the matter of love, no other soul can hold so many thoughts of blood.

The call of the wild

Remember the post that I explained the Katherine Mansfield Project? So, in that project I decided to read on book per week, and the first book that I read I was lucky enought to have a great time. The Call of the Wild, by Jack London, presents us to Buck, a dog that has lived in the confort of the city and now, he has to deal with the wildness of the forests and strangers who force him to work every single day.

When we read about his journey, it is presented to us an amazing image of the USA and places where we may never visit, it is interesting to observe some landscapes through the eyes of the writer and the best part was that I was afraid that this was another story, that the poor dog gets scared and he is so cute and sweet that we feel sorry for him, however, nothing like this happens. Buck is an interesting character that is trying to understand who he is and also, the wildness which lives inside his heart.

“He was mastered by the sheer surging of life, the tidal wave of being, the perfect joy of each separate muscle, joint, and sinew in that it was everything that was not death, that it was aglow and rampant, expressing itself in movement, flying exultantly under the stars.”

Despite the fact that we are talking about a dog, everyone could relate to this story, because when he feels misfit we can relate to that pretty easly. I reccomend this book specially to those who have animals, because we can pay attention to the animals behavior and learn more about them.

This is not a romantic movie...

Do you know thoses endless ''to watch lists'' that we have on Netflix? Because someday we are going to watch that movie, or serie, and someday we will know what is that movie about and then, time goes by and you just simply forget about it.

That's what happened to About time, a brillant movie directed by Richard Curtis, which is that kind of story that fools you by the amazing cover of a couple having their privaty moment of bliss, but it is actually what the marketing team wants to sell, because... honey, this isn't a love story.

Don't get me wrong, it is not that I don't like romantic movies, but I believe that father & son relationships are more complex than anyone could ever think. Bill Nighty is the father of a young man called Tim, Domhnall Gleeson, and they have and specific power that passes through generation to generation, travelling in time and changing what has happened in their lifes.

The plot envolves you and the whole idea starts really simple and it gets a lot more moving and complex as it goes. You should watch this movie during one of those lazy sunday afternoons that you have nothing else to do and it's raining outside. Get a cozy blanket, a bag of popcorn and just sit down and watch. It will be worth it.
